Determining if You Need Your Eyes Checked
If you wear glasses or contacts you should get your eyes checked every year. For those who don’t wear glasses it’s recommended to check your eyes about every two years. Some of the things to be aware of for warning signs: trouble seeing the chalkboard in school, difficulty seeing road signs at night, or frequent headaches and tired eyes.
The Eye Exam
The examination is painless. You may experience some bright lights during the testing and may have eye drops applied to your eyes. The drops create a brief stinging sensation that lasts no more than a few seconds. One of our Sonoma Eyeworks® doctors will examine your eyes and have you read charts during the eye test.
What We Look For
Your doctor will look for several different eye problems during the exam. Refractive conditions such as hyperopia, myopia (more commonly called far and nearsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia are found in most patients. In addition, your doctor will look at and inside your eyes to look for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other visual conditions.
Your Glasses
If you need vision corrections, Sonoma Eyeworks® can fit you with contacts and glasses. Our doctors will talk to you about which correction options suit you best.
The Importance of an Eye Exam
Many visual conditions are not symptomatic in their early stages but can be detected during an eye examination. There are also systemic diseases that are first diagnosed by looking at your eyes. This is why an eye exam is so important, even if you feel that your vision is fine.
